7 Ways Work-At-Home Moms Monetise Their Blog
Work at home moms find it difficult, if not impossible, to make money out of their blog.
To get people to your site was hard enough BUT then to convince them to whip out their credit cards and buy your stuff is a whole different level.
I mean, how on earth do you sell your product, course or service?
How will you convince people to click your affiliate link and make a purchase?
When I first started out in this business, I asked myself these questions. Because I felt that I wasn’t good enough.
I thought my content was not good enough. And, there was no way people would ever think about clicking my affiliate links and make a purchase.
But then, they did!
However, I’ve got to tell you: it took me a lot of time and hard work.
At first, I thought that I needed to know how to cast spells and have knowledge in the dark arts of the internet.
Later on, I realised that the skill is in knowing how to go from making zero to $1 from your blog.
If you can make $1 then you can make $100. If you can make $100 then you can scale up to making $1000 etc.
So what is stopping you?
Now, before I delve into the process of monetising your blog, let me ask you first:
Is it possible that you are actually mentally blocking yourself from making money?
Is there a sense of ‘fear of making money’ out of your blog?
Do you feel a fraud for trying to make money out of people?
I know that as a blogger, we feel inadequate sometimes. Actually, we feel inadequate at ALL times.
We feel that we aren’t offering them the best services or products for their money. There’s that constant fear at the back of our minds telling us that “we are not as good as the others.”
But, you know what?
If you think that comparing yourself can make you feel more motivated or competitive, then you’re wrong. Comparisons will just kill you emotionally. It will kill your creativity.
Instead of thinking of new ideas, you’ll be too preoccupied with negativity. You may even feel that you don’t have the experience and qualifications to warrant charging for your services or making money from your talent.
How do I know this? Because I felt the same way!
Let me remind you of a few fundamentals here.
Your blog content will solve problems AND in turn make money for you
When people read the valuable content in your blog, believe it or not, it actually makes a difference in their lives.
It’s because, in a way, they will know that they’re not the only ones who are experiencing these problems.
You are showing them empathy.
If your blog is genuine (and trust me, they’ll know if it’s not) enough, they’ll develop trust in what you say. They will follow your advice.
You have a chance to enhance their lives through your writing. You have the opportunity to save marriages, lives and relationships.
If you have an experience that they might relate to, share it in your blog post. Show them that despite all the challenges that life throws at them, they can succeed.
Through your blog posts, you can show people a better way of life. Enlighten them on the path that will take them away from their misery and towards happiness.
The value you put out there to enhance lives will cost you money – so you MUST be paid
It’s not a secret that you have to spend money to produce and distribute the content, so it benefits the right people. And, it’s not only money that you’re going to lose.
You will also lose time and effort. Possibly years of experience goes into the content you produce that will benefit others.
But, trust me when I say, that it will be worth it.
The moment when someone comments on your post or emails you directly to express their gratitude that will be the happiest day of your life as a blogger.
You will definitely, definitely feel fulfilled.
You may have slaved away writing blog posts, creating videos, podcasts, emails, lead magnets and other freebies to help enhance the lives of your audience.
But for you to continue providing goodwill, you need finance to run your company.
You need to cover the costs of running your business. Like I’ve said above, you need money. The software, plug-ins, tools and web applications aren’t free.
You need to pay the fees.
You need to afford to work in your area of passion and interests.
Write away as much as you want and as much as you need. Write for yourself. Write to fulfil the empty void in your life. Write for the readers so that they can learn from what you have experienced.
Write valuable information that will help them get to the place where they belong. Write about knowledge that will help your readers be successful.
If you do this, then you’ll get to live the life of your dreams.
It’s so fulfilling once you get the fruits of your effort. I can’t tell you how happy I was when I fulfilled my dreams and at the same time, provide financial security for my own family.
So, hang on.
I know you don’t want to think about this but…
What would happen if you don’t make money from your blog?
Well, I can only say one thing: if you can’t/don’t make money from your blog, then you’re still far from the finish line.
Maybe you haven’t installed the right plug-in, or perhaps you haven’t tried a particular technique. Maybe you haven’t tried implementing email marketing strategies. Perhaps you haven’t tried a better email service provider.
Maybe you haven’t tried targeting a specific group of audience. Or, perhaps the readers (who you’re addressing in your posts) haven’t found your website yet.
Many factors can get in your way. List all of them. And, try to eliminate them one at a time.
Just don’t stop. Whatever you do, never stop.
It would be a disservice to humanity. So many people’s lives will be affected negatively because they didn’t get to benefit from your product or service.
Don’t stop doing what you love because of a temporary setback! Think of it as a challenge!
You didn’t fail. You just aren’t there yet.
Plus, think about this: If you stop now, then you could end up going back to a 9-5 job!
What a nightmare!
You won’t get to oversee what your kids are doing. You won’t get to pick them up from school. You won’t get to spend quality time with them as much as you want to.
The next time you get disheartened; remind yourself of why you’re doing this in the first place.
What brought you here? What made you decide to be a work at home mom?
For me, it all began when I realised that my family was about to go broke. I was quite naive when I was young. I didn’t know that raising kids and keeping my family financially stable was this hard. I used to think motherhood was easy. I mean, when I was young, I couldn’t wait to be a mother! I loved babies. I knew how to clean. I knew how to cook. I knew how to budget. I wanted to have my own daughter and son.
And, when I finally had one, nothing had brought me more joy in my life than holding my baby for the very first time.
I thought, “As long as I have you, nothing in this world can ever make me feel miserable again.”
And, I was right…..until motherhood started to take its toll on me.
Don’t get me wrong. I love my kids. I love my husband. I love my family.
But, the house chores, doctor appointments, school fees and projects, bills and dirty laundry are a whole different story!
My family needed another source of income. And, it sure as hell wouldn’t come from my loving husband. I just can’t ask him to bring in more money. He’s tired all the time. I love him, and I don’t want to stress him out.
So, I needed to act and get my head in the game. I started my very own blog with no prior knowledge.
I bet you are giving that nod of approval while reading this. And believe me, I understand. I am like you too, and I know how challenging making money from your blog is.
But I am not complaining though.
So becoming a work at home mom was a difficult transition to make. But trust me when I say this: It was the best decision I have ever made in my career life.
But just like any other journeys, the entire process did not come easy. While I did all sorts of research on all corners of the Internet prior, it is different when you are already at it. The fear and doubts start to sink in, and you begin to question whether you are doing the right thing or not.
This is the main reason why I wrote this blog in the first place. I want to share with you how I managed to completely throw my hat into the world of work at home blogging.
It may sound unbelievable, and I am pretty sure one of your eyebrows is raised in disbelief right now. But this is true. There are real legal ways to earn money while writing about the things you love.
So are you excited to become a work at home mom now? Are you ready to turn your ideas into cash? I guess I am hearing a big yes from here so read on to learn more.
Like I mentioned earlier, there are 7 ways to earn money from your blogs. And we are going to tackle each of the most straightforward and most actionable methods here.
Here is the list of ways to make money with your work-at-home mom blog;
1) Display Ads
2) Affiliate Marketing
3) Custom Ads with Affiliate Links
4) Sell your digital products
5) Create your own online course
6) Sell subscriptions to your membership site
7) Sell your services as a coach or consultant
Let’s explore each method in greater detail…
1) How to use Ads to monetise your work at home mom blog
[Illustration of Display Ads on a blog]
Ads are not new to us. We always see them on TV. And, they can be quite annoying especially if you don’t want the TV series, which you’re watching, being interrupted in the middle of a scene.
But, today I’m going to shed new light on ads. You see blog ads work entirely different.
What are the ads that I can put on my blog?
The ads that you can put on your blog can consist of text, images, animated Gifs or even video. Every time a visitor clicks on an ad on your blog, you will receive a payment.
It’s a pretty simple way to monetise your blog. All you have to do is wait for somebody to click on those ads. But, of course, you can’t get people to click on those ads if nobody visits your website.
So, you have to start increasing your traffic and get the top spot on Googles search results page.
How do I get these ads onto my blog?
To get these ads onto your blog, you have to apply to advertising networks. You have to get them to host adverts from their networks onto your blog.
You can start visiting their websites and see which of these advertising networks have the best deals in store for you.
What are Advertising Networks?
Advertisers are always looking for highly targeted traffic to be driven to their website to buy their products and services.
Now, that is where advertising networks come in. Their primary aim is to promote product or brand awareness through posting ad campaigns in highly-visited websites.
Advertising networks work as agents that connect advertisers (the companies that want to sell their products and services) to blogs.
These blogs are those who receive a considerable amount of traffic that cater to a specific audience. Hopefully, this is going to be you!
Here is a typical process of getting ads from an ad network onto your blog.
First, apply at an ad network.
Next, give them time to review your website and check your traffic. Once they approve your application, they will choose a section of your site where they want to set up their ads.
It is that simple. Now all you have to do is collect checks for every click your visitor makes. So the higher your traffic is, the more money you will likely bank.
Where can I find Advertising Networks?
There are different resources available for a wide range of users. MediaVine is my top choice, but it requires 25,000 sessions for a month.
But I’m just starting out?
No problemo! Google Adsense is an excellent network for beginners. The catch is it pays way less than other networks. If your traffic is low, then you might bring in a few dollars per month.
But here is friendly advice. Do not show display ads until you gain enough traffic to make real money.

Some bloggers are firmly against the idea of putting Ads on your website
But, don’t worry. You don’t have to listen to what they say. What doesn’t work for them may work for you.
We all have different ways of monetising our blog.
It may bring you more money and help you with paying the bills.
Trying won’t hurt you.
2) How to use Affiliate Marketing to monetise your work at home mom blog
Another good place to start for new bloggers is affiliate marketing. Here, you will direct your readers to a particular product or service. In exchange, you will gain a commission for every sale made.
What is excellent about affiliate marketing is that you do not have to create your products. Also, you have complete freedom on what you want to advertise. This means it is okay just to recommend the products that are relevant to your blog and readers. But the best part is, affiliate marketing offers more profit than your regular ads.
Surprisingly, entering the world of affiliate marketing is as easy as three steps.
Step 1: Apply to affiliate programs for products you want to promote.
Step 2: Wait for approval. They will provide you with a unique URL code (Affiliate Link) that you can use to link their product.
Step 3: Promote the affiliate link to your target audience.
As a work at home mom, you will earn a commission each time your reader clicks that special link and buys the product.
Vendors Own Affiliate Programs
Many companies have affiliate programs that are not linked to any affiliate networks. In other words, they are running their own affiliate program.
Usually, this is the “refer a friend” type of marketing campaign. You will be provided with an affiliate link for your visitors to click on. If they buy the product or avail of the service, you will be paid a commission.
3) How to monetise your work at home mom blog with Custom Ads with Affiliate Links
[Illustration of Custom Ads taking the visitor to affiliate offer then making a purchase to achieve a commission]
Using affiliate links to benefit your readers is one of the exciting challenges with custom ads. But for someone who cherishes their readers, this is my most favourite of all.
You see, your goal here is not just about getting your readers to click on an ad. You want your readers to get the products that will be the answer to their problems. Trust me, it is a more effective method to earn money from ads.
Nearly all the Affiliate Networks that I know offer pre-made affiliate banner ads. You can find them in their affiliate dashboard. The network will provide an HTML code that you will simply copy and paste into your blog.
The nice thing about affiliate marketing is that you can control where you want to place the ad.
For me, a strategically placed ad is more convincing and attractive to readers.
4) How to make money online with your mom blog by selling your own digital products
Offering your own digital products and downloadable assets is another excellent way of making money from your blog. Instead of depending on other people to pay you to promote their product, why not make your own product to sell?
The profit margins are way higher, by the way.
The items can vary depending on your chosen niche.
Yes, focus on your niche.
I am quite sure your audience would not mind spending a few extra dollars for a more advanced product or service.
Here are some brilliant ideas for products you can create.
Create your own Ebooks
Ebooks are frankly books that have been formatted so they can be delivered or downloaded online. Writing your own book is easy today.
Just write through MS Word or a Google Doc then export it to PDF. Voila! You have yourself an eBook. You can sell this on your blog site, Kindle, or even Amazon.
It will literally cost you zero dollars to deliver your eBook.
Understand that readers would only pay for your book if its contents are way better than your free blogs. So put yourself in your buyers’ shoes and think of how your eBook should be worth its money.
Sort your previous blog posts and find out which ones were popular. They will most likely attract buyers. Then, consider writing and elaborating on earlier posts in detail. Incorporate more examples and scenarios and offer a better design. By the way, in case you need help with your eBook covers, Fiverr.com has got many great designers that are so affordable.
Give away a few chapters of your ebook for free with a view for the readers to buy the complete version. And offer an unconditional money back guarantee if they are not satisfied with the content.
This is a great way to hook your readers into buying your book as you are taking on all the risk and taking away all their reservations in making the purchase.
5) How to make money online with your mom blog by selling Online Courses
Sell your own Online Course
Believe me, the market for online courses is getting bigger every year. In fact, the industry can exceed up to a staggering $240 billion by 2023. This is according to research company GM Insights. So since you have decided to become a full-time work at home mom, give your all!
I have to be honest with you, it will take years to build an audience. But the best advice you can receive from me now is START TODAY.
Stop giving reasons, just start moving. Your kids are growing up, your bills are increasing, so this is the best time to earn extra.
Making online courses may probably entail a lot of researching, planning, building, and marketing.
But hear me out, they also have the highest ROI and are the most profitable website monetisation strategy.
If you don’t have enough content yet to design your own online course, then that’s not a problem!
You can find courses in your niche that have valuable content that your readers will benefit from AND also have an affiliate program.
You don’t have to rush anything and start making your own online course as soon as possible. Just take a deep breath. There are other ways.
Once you’re done researching which online course you’re going to go for, you can sign up to their affiliate program and promote it on your blog.
If you don’t know where to look, then you should probably start finding courses that are related to your niche on Teachable and Udemy.
This is precisely what I do with Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing.
It’s a great course to help newbies to start making money with affiliate marketing.
They also run an affiliate program to help you make money by promoting their course to others.
Affiliate marketing provides excellent financial opportunities for new mom bloggers who just about getting their feet wet.
6) How to make money online with your mom blog with Membership sites
“I don’t think I can make my own online course.” Don’t worry, there is still another way to earn money from your blog — your content.
I bet you are wondering how does this differ from an eBook and online course? Well, technically speaking they are quite similar. But both eBooks and online courses are delivered via different formats like Kindle and module, respectively.
As for this, you are paid solely for your content, nothing more and nothing less. Read on to discover how a work at home moms like us can earn extra dollars.
A membership site can be an excellent way to monetise your blog, especially if it starts to gain traction and it already has a dedicated group of readers.
Dear moms, if you wish to start a membership site, go back to the very core of this blog— post worthy content. Keep them coming consistently too so your members will feel that the subscription fee they are paying for is a bang for their bucks.
There are readily available tools to set up a membership site. These are my top three recommendations: Paid Memberships Pro, MemberPress, and Restrict Content Pro. By the way, each has its own pros and cons. So do your homework and weigh things out before you subscribe.
7) How to make money online with your mom blog by Coaching and Consulting
We live in a highly competitive time where people are eager to do more and succeed. They are determined to enhance or learn new skills.
And what is the best way to gain one? Having a coach, of course.
For example, if we want to learn about investing in the stock market, we read books or listen to interviews of the legendary Warren Buffett.
If we’re going to learn how to cook like a pro, we look at videos of Gordon Ramsey.
What do we do after? We get inspired and apply what we learned from them in real life.
As a coach, your blog is an essential medium for communication. It can help your clients achieve what they want while encouraging them of the end result if they stay focused on their goals.
But you need to prepare yourself too as there will be people who would ask for a 1-on-1 help. If you are willing, you can create a separate page and display the different services you can offer. You can also add a “hire me” page to make it easier for them.
Out of all the ways you can make money online, these 7 ways to monetise your blog are the quickest to implement.
It’s daunting I know.
Sometimes it’s the fear of actually making money that is stopping you from making money. This is something I realised very early on.
So believe in yourself.
I hope I have helped you take the first step in the right direction to starting your online income.
Thank you for reaching this far, and I appreciate the time you spent in reading this post. I really hope that you learned something and that you will get inspired as a work at home mom.
